'Yoga Tune-up TFL Release In this video, Dr. Tara demonstrates a release for the tensor fascia latae muscle (or TFL). The TFL is a small muscle but it is important because it is one of two muscles that lead into the iliotibial band (ITB). We often hear of clients complaining of tight ITBs which can lead to knee pain etc. Since the ITB is extremely dense connective tissue it is not as easily influenced as muscle tissue. Targeting the TFL and glute max (the other muscle that leads into the ITB) can be an effective strategy to influence the ITB. What to do: Locate the TFL muscle by finding your hip bone (or ASIS) and then moving directly posterior to it Find a spot on the wall and place the ball between the wall and this muscle Give the ball a spin to “lock in” the fascia While pushing into the ball bring your leg across your body Repeat 5-6x As always, discomfort should be no more than 5-6/10 and if something feels sharp or painful, stop and reach out to your practitioner. Yoga Tune-up balls are available for purchase online at https://www.leprixclothing.com/collections/self-care-collection'
